Color and Contrast Take Center Stage in a Pasadena Modern Craftsman

When our house flipping client came to us with their updated Pasadena Craftsman looking for us to stage it, we got pretty excited. Then, when we toured the property during construction, little wheels in our heads started turning right away. To say we had fun with this one is an under-statement. The black-framed windows alone spoke to us so loudly, we couldn't think clearly, OK? Photos by Christopher Lee.

West Elm's Layla rug was our first purchase -- and the room's color inspiration. Its Moroccan tile pattern and random red-orange accents gave us permission to go bold with CB2's bright pouf - and some richly toned kilim pillows from Etsy.

Our second bold accent color - yellow - makes an appearance in the form of a coffee table book. The Mid Century modern coffee table is a World Market find. We shop EVERYWHERE. Yes, you've probably seen us out there.

When you just happen to have an awesome vintage Bollywood poster, you just have to use it. Especially when it picks up on your colors. Below it, a vintage dresser (from craigslist, people!) we're using as a credenza, with a vintage brass lamp (thrifted!) and oversized black shade for drama.

Just love these IKEA Viktigt chairs, from one of their newest lines. OK, kill us, we shop at IKEA.

At the entry, this bookcase from LA's Moti Roma holds treasures. And nothing says welcome like a Cameroonian juju feather headdress in shocking orange. We even love IKEA's Viktigt basket to hold more kilim-y goodness.

We'll move on to other rooms soon, but pretty please look at this rustic wood ladder next to the rad sliding barn door our client used. A burlap coffee sack is casually placed there as if by accident (riiiiiiiiggghhhht).

Hello, World Market Flynn Hairpin Leg chairs. We see you there looking all cute around a vintage table we found at Pepe's Furniture in Echo Park. Oh, and you're sporting a red kilim pillow, too, are you?

We wouldn't be lying if we said this was one of our fave kitchens. Ever.

IKEA's simple globe lamps create a soft and glowy light. Almost childlike in its appeal, and something you never outgrow.

Master bath detail. The dark walls carry the contrast theme throughout the house.

Another bedroom. This time, with a rustic camp theme. We hung a vintage canteen above the bed because, well, because we could.

It's a real tree trunk, thrifted in Eagle Rock, and H&M Home pillow.

And you thought you'd already seen enough cute bedrooms. But wait, there's one more.

Ochre, gray and brass. Brass is back. in a big way. We don't see it going away anytime soon. And that's fine with us.
