It's a Scandi-Rustic Thing

Staging this Valley Village, CA home involved a quick check of Fall-Winter IKEA catalogs (yes, IKEA!) for some Hygge inspiration. Something about the home’s white spaces made us want to settle in and get cozy with our design.

Light neutrals and fresh wood tones typify Scandi-Rustic design. Here, Eames molded dining chairs are perfectly suited to West Elm’s Jensen glass-topped Mid Century modern table

In the home office, an Antwerp sofa from West Elm, nubby textural rug and Eames molded wood table make working from home anything but business as usual.

An IKEA RENS sheepskin casually draped over a chair brings a coziness to the scene. You’ll spot IKEA’s faux eucalyptus leaves on both tables.

We filled a wire basket with a good amount of birch logs and placed a decorative (and useful!) fireplace broom against the hearth, which our client painted white. Just a few books and some simple decor on the mantel are all that’s needed for a fresh take on this familiar winter scene.

Don’t worry if you don’t have an extra side table. Try a jute pouf instead — It’ll provide a resting place for a tray and beverage or double as additional seating when you have a few guests over.

In the kitchen, taupe cabinets and white built-in shelving gave us the exact backdrop we needed for some Scandinavian accessories, bowls, dishes and decor.

Give us some built-in shelving and we’re happy campers!

Hanging rattan pendants? Check. Nubby rug? Check. Woven ottomans as a foot-of-bed bench? Check. A little blush color? Check. Neutral books, art and baskets? Check. Primary bedroom staged.

These Studio McGee for Target woven ottomans are real game-changers. Try them as a foot-of-bed bench or tucked under a hallway console. They can even sub as a coffee table for a narrow space.

Details, details, details. It’s all in the details.

This home features some great IKEA pieces that mimic real built-in furniture.

When in doubt, neutrals and textures are always your best bet. Load up on soft warm and cool neutral-toned pillows, rugs and upholstered furniture — and play with these textural components to your heart’s content.

We believe in simplicity. In fact, it’s our favorite color.
